Thanks for the transfers!

I tried them last night though and had a hell of a job getting them to lie flat on the shoulderpads, even after cutting them into several pieces :(

Unfortunately looked at the ones I'd done this morning and wasn't happy with the result, so scratched them off. (shoulderpads now needs repainting :) )

The others look OK though, so will probably handpaint the angel wing on the shoulder and use the others on powergloves etc.

Cheers
Steven

You should use decal softener, like Micro-Sol and Micro-Set. Without wishing to patronise, putting transfers on big softly rounded curves like terminator shoulder pads is not difficult.

First, always put a thin coat of gloss varnish on the area to be decalled. Future floor polish is good for this. Let it dry, obviously. This is so the decal has a good seat, with no microscopic air bubbles (matt paint is rather like pebble-dash microscopically)

Brush the appropriate Sol or Set solution onto the (dry) varnish area. It acts like extra 'paste' to help glue the decal down, as well as soften the carrier film.

Wet the decal in water, until it is ready to slide off the paper.

Apply, probably with the aid of a clean paintbrush.

Once it is seated, smooth some Sol or Set (the one for the upper surface of a decal) on top with a light paintbrush. Work from the centre of the decal to the edges, to smooth away the creases.

I'll show you some of my 'angels and also my Bloodbowl humans, putting the decals on those was a little tricky.

We can do this next painting clinic if you like. Don't give up on it!

Thanks for your comments!

I'll try and get both squads painted to a point where we can add the transfers at a painting clinic :)

Cheers

Time to ressurrect this old post - Both units of terminators have been painted for a while now, and I picked up some Vallejo Decal Softener this weekend so intend to complete the transfers soon.

Anyone had experience with this product? I assume I slide the transfer off in water first, then apply some of this stuff to the transfer while on the model... going to do as pete suggested and gloss the area first, then paint over with matt varnish after the transfer is added and dried...

Regards,
Steven

I personally use Micro-Sol and Micro-Set (which I got from The Swindon Model Centre in Theatre Square up by the Wyvern) - one of these fluids goes on the model before you apply the decal to act as a decal softener AND supplimental adhesive, the other is brushed lightly over the decal after you have positioned it to soften it further and make it shrink slightly onto the models surface.

Anyway, if there are no instructions, and you can't find anything online, I'd be inclined to brush it lightly over the decal once you have positioned it. Something I do after this point is to lightly apply pressure with a pad of damp tissue paper directly from the centre of the decal - but you have to be careful of course...

Good luck, and don't forget to cut any surplus clear 'margin' from around the printed image on the decal.
